ADVOCACY

Shared Governance | Civic Engagement | Continued Advancement

Despite decades as a setting in the Athletic Training profession, the industrial setting still strives for total recognition in occupational health. Though many states have passed legislation to give American workers access to the full scope of athletic training care, some states still lag behind best practices. In addition, employment opportunities are obscure and employee agency murky. In a collaborative environment, IATS promotes civic engagement and AT empowerment across the country to foster professional growth and job transparency.

The Advocacy & Lobbying Committee houses the majority of the advocacy efforts of the organization. The committee is tasked with obtaining information and feedback from athletic trainers and turning it into transparency and action for the profession. Programs like our employer transparency program have created landmark transparency around employment while our MSAT Outreach program supports the future of the profession through education and knowledge sharing.

The Next Advocacy Committee Meeting is on March 12th, 2026 at 6pm Central. Meeting links are in the Member Community on Discord

Employer Survey is Open

The 2026

The first Industrial Employer Report was published last year featuring date from over 193 athletic trainers' thorough reviews of their employment experience. The public summary shares average salary data by industry and shift, feedback on what was good and bad about their work experience, and transparency around bonuses and recommendations. The industrial setting as a whole received a positive promotion score but there are opportunities to better support athletic trainers. The 2026 survey features additional questions to help ATs better navigate employment on their terms.

MSAT Outreach Program

Introducing athletic training students to the industrial setting gives them the opportunity to learn more about the profession of athletic training and the opportunities for practice advancement.

If you are an athletic training program that would like an industrial AT to talk to your class, we are here to help! Email Us and tell us what you're looking for! Ideally, we can send a representative from within our organization but if we have an external contact that will meet your needs, we'll put you in contact with them.
